For over two decades, a comprehensive revitalization of the downtown Kings Beach Commercial Core has been discussed, debated, planned and, most agree, much needed.
Since 2004, the NTBA, in cooperation with the Placer County Redevelopment Agency, has played a key role in facilitating the extensive public outreach and comment phase of the much anticipated Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project (KBCCIP). Throughout this open community process, hundreds of local Kings Beach businesses and residents have participated in numerous workshops and committees to gather information and provide input.
The scope of the project is sizeable and will result in the re-creation of Kings Beach along Highway 28 from where it intersects with Highway 267, 1.1 mile east through the core of downtown Kings Beach to Chipmunk Street. The purpose of the project is to improve pedestrian & bicycle facilities, to improve stormwater runoff treatment to enhance the clarity of the lake and to improve aesthetic character of the commercial core area and includes new streetscape, sidewalks, curbs and gutters. The estimated cost of the project is approximately $40 million.
With Kings Beach businesses directly impacted by this project, many opinions, comments and concerns have been expressed. The NTBA continues to urge Kings Beach business owners and residents to participate in this process as it moves toward the Design Phase (tentatively scheduled for 2008) and on to the eventual groundbreaking (tentatively scheduled for 2009).
